Abstract

The number of Anastrepha frui flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) is determined by the availability of host plants and their phenological stages. The objective was to compare the number of adults of Anastrepha ludens (Loew), A. obliqua (Macquart), A. serpentina (Wiedemann), and A. striata (Schiner) among cultivars and phenological stages of citrus fruits grown in Tamaulipas, Mexico. The study was conducted from January to December 2024 using 1,295 Multilure traps distributed across orange and grapefruit orchards located within two phytosanitary control zones. Comparisons of the number of Anastrepha adults among cultivars and phenological stages were analyzed using multivariate analysis. The results indicate that A. ludens is the most dominant species, and that Valencia orange and red grapefruit crops are preferred hosts. In addition, harvest maturity together with flowering or fruit set contributes to an increase in their populations.
