Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the GP526 strain of Bacillus thuringiensis in vitro on the proglotides of Taenia pisiformis. Mature gravid proglottids were obtained, and were incubated at 0.5, 1.1.5, 2 and 2.5 h with the spore-crystal complex of GP526. The results indicated that at 1.5 h post-incubation with GP526 decreases the release of eggs vs. the control group (P <0.001), and a contraction of the tegument surrounding the genital pore was observed. The GP526 strain is proposed as an effective candidate to reduce the infectivity of T. pisiformis tapeworm and useful to interrupt the parasitic cycle.
